- Tung Chan, CEO, S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
Tung Chan was appointed CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in November 2006. Before that, he served with distinction for 28 years with the TD Bank Financial Group where his last position was district vice-president in charge of 17 TD Canada Trust branches. From 1990 to 1993, Tung served for one term as a councillor of the City of Vancouver. In that capacity, Tung acted as Deputy Mayor of Vancouver on numerous occasions.
Tung has worked on the boards of many community organizations. He was a leader of the Boys' and Girls Club of Vancouver (Director), International Financial Center Society of Vancouver (Vice Chair), Richmond Public Library (Chair), and E-Comm Emergency Communications for Southwest BC Inc. (Chair). He also helped found the Richmond Bogside Boys Scout Group (Advisor), the Kelowna Chinese Cultural Association (Treasurer), the Pender Guy Radio Program (Producer) and the Centennial Toastmaster Club (Mentor).
Tung is presently a member of BC Premier's Chinese Community Advisor Committee, a member of the Board of Governors of Kwantlen University College and a board advisor of the Vancouver Summer Festival Society. He was appointed to the board of directors of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada in November 2006. In 2002, Tung was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contribution to the community.
- Lucinda Chodan, Editor in Chief, Times Colonist
Lucinda Chodan is editor-in-chief of the Victoria Times Colonist. Before that, she spent 20 years at the Montreal Gazette, occupying positions that included deputy editor, readership development editor and senior news editor. She began her daily newspaper career at the Edmonton Sun, where she worked as an entertainment reporter.
Lucinda received a National Newspaper Award for feature writing in 1986 and was awarded a certificate of merit the same year for enterprise reporting. She has also done extensive freelance work for such music publications as Country Magazine and Canadian Musician. She has taught writing and reporting at Concordia University in Montreal.
- Maureen Duncan, CEO, United Way
Maureen Duncan is the CEO of the United Way. She is a results-oriented senior professional with over 35 years' of progressive experience in the Private and the Not-for-Profit Sector. Her career spans finance and administration from BC to Britain. Her solid planning and organizational skills and ability to deliver resuls make her a sought after resource in many areas of the Not-for-Profit sector.
Maureen has an established network of contacts within the community, with memberships in the Harbourside Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. Her volunteer affiliations are extensive and include Chair or Co-Chair roles with organizations such as Interlock Employee and Family Assistance Corporation of Canada, the UVic Office of Community Based Research Steering Committee, and Major's Task Force GAP Analysis Committee.
- Terry Farmer, President and CEO, Accent Inns
Terry Farmer is President and Chief Executive Officer of Accent Inns Inc., an award-winning family-owned B.C. hotel chain he founded in 1986. Mr. Farmer is a long-time supporter of tourism in this province and his career has been marked on more than one occasion with notable accolades. He was awarded an Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Tourism and Hospitality (Pacific Region) in 1998 and, since April 2004, has been a member of Tourism British Columbia's Board of Directors. In addition, Mr. Farmer was appointed Chair of the Belleville Terminal Blue Ribbon Task Force, a local team charged with developing a sustainable, market-driven financial model for the future development of the Belleville Street Terminal on Victoria's inner harbour.
Mr. Farmer is Past President of the B.C. Chamber of Commerce, Founding Chair of PacificSport National Training Centre-Victoria, and Past Chair of Tourism Victoria, Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and the Oak Bay/Greater Victoria Summer Games. Over the years he has served as a volunteer on the boards of numerous charitable, sports and community organizations including the Commonwealth Games, Patrons Council, Greater Victoria Hospital Society, YM-YWCA and the Community Welfare Council. Mr. Farmer also volunteers as a speaker at United Way Leadership Presentations and is a member of the Go2 Speakers Bureau, a resource for employers in tourism. In 2007, he received the Rotary Community Leadership Award; in 2005, the Generosity of Spirit Award and, in 2002, he was presented with the Queens Jubilee Medal.
- Councillor Helen Hughes, C.M., B.S.H.Ec.
Councillor Helen Hughes serves as the councillor for the City of Victoria. During her time in Saskatoon, she was active in volunteer work and was on City Council from 1976-80. During those four years, she was particularly involved in building bridges between the native and non-native residents of the city. For those activities, she was awarded the Order of Canada.
- Bill Lau, President, HKCBA
Bill Lau the President of the Honk Kong-Canada Business Association. He is a Partner in the KPMG Vancouver Tax practice and a Leader of the China Desk in Canada. Bill also co-chairs a National Steering Committee of KPMG professionals dedicated to meeting the needs of companies conducting business in China and Hong Kong. With over 20 years experience, including four years at KPMG in Hong Kong, Bill has a solid understanding of the business and operating environment in China and Canada. Bill applies his experience and understanding of China's complex business environment to assist Canadian companies with their investment and business expansion into Asia. Bill is an active board member or advisory board member of several community organizations including the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association and the Vancouver Economic Development Commission. Bill is a Chartered Accountant and a practicing lawyer in British Columbia.
- Jacques Lemay, Artistic Director, CCPA
Mr. Lemay has been described as one of Canada's most talented and versatile Producer/Director/Choreographers. Mr. Lemay is the Co-Founder and Managing Artistic Director of the Canadian College of Performing Arts. Mr. Lemay has directed and choreographed musicals in major theatres across Canada and is former Artistic Director of the Charlottetown Festival. He was founding director of the Jazz Dance department for the professional and general schools for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for thirteen years. Mr. Lemay was Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremonies for the 1988 Calgary Olympics; producer/director of the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games; producer/director of the 1997 Special Olympics World Winter Games and producer/artistic director for the opening ceremonies of Confederation Bridge; Artistic Director of six Royal Visits. He is a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal and was recognized as a 2004 Community Arts Leader of the Year.
- Pauline Rafferty, CEO, Royal BC Museum
Pauline Rafferty is the CEO of the Royal BC Museum, a position she has held since 2001. Prior to being appointed CEO, Ms. Rafferty served as the Director of the Museum for 7 years. She has also served as the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Women's Equality from 1990 to 1992. Ms. Rafferty is an active volunteer with Leadership Victoria, the Heritage Society, Oak Bay Board of Variance, Tourism Victoria Destination Marketing Commission and the University of Victoria Faculty of Business Advisory Board. She is a member of both the British Columbia and Canadian Museum Associations. Ms. Rafferty holds a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology from Simon Fraser University.
- Catherine Yuen, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office
Catherine Yuen is the Principal Consultant (Western Canada) of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO). HKETO serves as a link between Hong Kong and the Canadian business community, with a particular focus on trade and economic relationships.
